Connecting students and teachers to the wonders of our planet.
|Short description of your (or organization's) current interest/work in an deep time perspective:|
We started our work as Montessori teachers developing materials that extended the Montessori Great Lessons and made research possible for young students. We continue to develop hands-on experiences in a variety of subject areas to develop understanding, and to use deep time as a means of connecting a variety of subjects from art to grammar and beyond.

We (my husband, Doug Mann, and I) are long-time Montessori teachers with a passion for Cosmic Education. Near the middle of our careers, we began to develop materials for our students, ages 6 to 12, that would make this complex subject accessible. We’ve written booklets, developed curriculum of hands-on experiences in geology, biology, art, and, of course, pre-history, and created imaginative materials that can be used by students as young as 6 or 7. In recent years, we have connected this study with art and theater activities, and are now embarking on extensions into grammar following Montessori fundamentals, but using the context of deep time.

We hope to gain others’ insights to concepts as well as participate in discussions of this vast and vibrant subject. We would be happy to share the work we’ve complete or are working on as well as listen to the work being investigated by others. |What do you (or organization) bring to the Network?|
We bring passion for the subject, especially as related to children. And, of course, we have a lot of teaching materials!

|Originally inspired to do this work by:|
We were originally inspired by our students. They loved the Great Lessons and wanted to do research in the different periods of the time line of life or of specific geologic periods. But the materials they found at the library or in their online searches were simply too complicated. They required our interpretation and re-wording. To support their independence, we began to write little stories for the children to read about ancient animals and time periods. We saw the delight the children took from holding a fossil millions of years old, encouraging us to continue to develop more research materials. Other Montessori teachers, learning of our work, asked us to share the materials we were developing. Eventually we turned this into our small company: http://www.fossilicious.com.
