What do you (or organization) hope for in connection with a deep time perspective?

To share these ideas with others so that they can find their place and share their contributions. I am a passionate Montessori educator of both children and adults and am an advocate for a broad educational perspective that is science-based. Cosmic Education offers a picture of the unity of the cosmos.

Short description of your (or organization's) current interest/work in an deep time perspective:

My work and career have focused on the Montessori method and philosophy for over twenty years. My interest stemmed from an interest in human psychology and development, and the question of how to help myself and others reach their full potential as well as find ways to contribute to the greater good with that potential. Montessori education, the Cosmic Curriculum and Great Lessons, gave me a clear way to articulate and share these perspectives. The unifying theme of the great lessons is a vast and important one; that we are not only enthralled with the evolving Universe, but that we are even connected to it, and that we each have a role to play, something to contribute to the larger whole. The themes of humanity’s connection and relationship to the Universe, to the cycles of the Earth, to life itself, are integral ideas in the Montessori presentations. Through sharing and illustrating the Great Lessons with young students, educators, parents, and through mentoring and instruction, I have found deeper connections with these stories in the scientific evolutionary perspective, becoming clearer each year. Maria Montessori and her peers were ahead of their time in knowing that all humans, not only children, would find a deep and awe inspiring connection to the understanding of the changing natural world around us – both large and small.

Education: M.Ed. in Developmental Reading from the College of New Jersey and a BA in Psychology and Elementary Education from Georgian Court College, NJ. Certified by the State of New Jersey as a Reading Specialist and Elem Teacher, K-8th grade. Credentialed by the American Montessori Society in Elementary I through Seacoast Teacher Education, MA, and in Elementary II through the Princeton Center Teacher Education (PCTE).
I am an instructor, and field consultant for PCTE (Princeton Center Teacher Education), which trains and mentors teachers in Montessori pedagogy from Infancy through Upper Elementary Education. I teach Child Development for levels Infant – Elem. At the Elementary I level, I instruct in Montessori Philosophy, The Great Lessons, Curriculum Design, Reading and Assessment. At the Elementary II level, I instruct Biology and History, with an emphasis on the Great Lessons of the Timeline of Life and Early Humans. I also teach Character Development, Peace Education and Classroom Management, and have served as Elementary Coordinator for Elementary Teachers. This has given me a deep and broad knowledge of how Montessori’s Great Lessons and Cosmic Curriculum are the foundation of Montessori Elementary philosophy and content. I am a frequent presenter for parents and experienced teachers, locally and at national conferences, on many subjects, including the Great Lessons and their implementation. I have been a teacher for over 20 years at the Princeton Montessori School in the elementary classrooms and have most recently served as the Director of Elementary Programs, overseeing and aligning curriculum and philosophy. My current role as Director of Student Services allows me to continue in this role of monitoring the philosophical tone of the school for all levels, as well as educating and mentoring families, facilitating conflict resolution, and problem solving educational, social and developmental issues with parents and teachers.

What are you (or organization) looking for from the Network?

Developing connections and resources with like minded individuals is one of my goals. I look forward to learning, growing and sharing. I am interested in building my scientific and cultural understandings in ways that foster my growth as a teacher and mentor to educators and families. I also am interested in the spiritual aspects I can develop and enhance through this network and of developing a deep understanding of humanity’s role in the cosmos. The more I learn, the more I want to know, hence my journey.

What do you (or organization) bring to the Network?

I have a deep understanding of the Montessori Cosmic Curriculum and have taught the Great Lessons and Cosmic Curriculum to elementary aged students for years. I have also prepared teacher training programs, as well as parent education workshops, on the these topics. The lessons and stories are valuable in helping humans get excited about science, the interconnections throughout the Universe, and the world. The stories speak to humans of all ages, and foster deep connections internally and externally. A fundamental principle in inspiring learning is to begin with the whole – the big picture with all its wonder and grandeur and lingering questions, and there is no better whole than the Universe itself and its long and deep history.
