Extended Profile

What do you (or organization) hope for in connection with a deep time perspective?

I am interested in sharing my particular creative work – PaGaian Cosmology – that has been inspired and informed in part by Brian Swimme and Thomas Berry: at core it is the celebration of Cosmogenesis in the Seasonal Moments, with a global perspective: that is, recognising both Southern and Northern Hemispheres co-incidentally celebrating opposite seasons.

Short description of your (or organization's) current interest/work in an deep time perspective:

I currently teach a year long on-line course in celebrating the Seasonal Moments from a deep-time perspective, as a method for being centred in cosmic origins, which I speak of as Mother: that is, with female metaphor. This was the topic of my doctoral work (2002), which I turned into a book (2005). This book has been freely available on-line at my website since 2006. Thomas Berry read my doctoral work on the topic and commented that he was  “… impressed with your work and with the vision, courage, and ardor with which you have followed through on a major aspect of the Great Work.”

Background: Your bio if an individual, or description if an organization (Let us know who you are!):

Glenys Livingstone Ph.D. is the author of PaGaian Cosmology: Re-inventing Earth-based Goddess Religion, which fuses the indigenous traditions of Old Europe with scientific theory, feminism and a poetic relationship with place. She lives in the Blue Mountains Australia where she has facilitated Seasonal ceremony, taught classes, and mentored apprentices. In 2014, Glenys co-facilitated the Mago Pilgrimage to Korea with Dr. Helen Hwang. Glenys is a contributor to Goddessses in World Culture edited by Patricia Monaghan (2011), and to Foremothers of the Women’s Sprituality Movement edited by Miriam Robbins Dexter and Vicki Noble (2015). She recently produced PaGaian Cosmology Meditations CDs, and teaches a year-long on-line course “Celebrating Cosmogenesis in the Wheel of the Year”.

What are you (or organization) looking for from the Network?

I was invited by Jennifer to become a contributing member, so that I could share my seasonal posts here.

What do you (or organization) bring to the Network?

Earth and Goddess based expression for the sacred, centred in seasonal celebration

Year became interested in a deep time evolutionary perspective:

1992 when I started reading The Universe is a Green Dragon

Originally inspired to do this work by:

Brian Swimme, Thomas Berry and Elisabet Sahtouris. Teilhard de Chardin and the Process philosophers were early inspirations in the mid-late 1970’s.

Also inspired to do this work by:

Starhawk, Charlene Spretnak, Mary Daly and many eco-feminists

Call this work:

If you call it something else, what do you call it?

I am a featured contributor to Return to Mago e-magazine

Applying a Deep Time evolutionary perspective to what fields/issues:

Favorite Quote Having to do With a Deep Time Evolutionary Perspective:

In the primeval fireball, which quickly billowed in every direction, we see a metaphor for the infinite striving of the sentient being. An unbridled playing out of this cosmic tendency would lead to ultimate dispersion. But the fireball discovered a basic obstacle to its movements, the gravitational attraction. Only because expansion met the obstacle of gravitation did the galaxies come forth. In a similar way the wings of birds and the musculature of the elephants arose out of the careful embrace of the negative or obstructing aspects of the gravitational attraction. Any life forms that might awake in a world without gravity’s hindrances to motion would be incapable of inventing the anatomy of the cheetah (Brian Swimme and Thomas Berry, The Universe Story, p.55.)

Are you a teacher/professor?

If yes, what institution?

independent teacher at the moment, but I have taught Ecopsychology at the Western Sydney University

Offer programs with a deep time evolutionary perspective:

If Yes, Programs Offered With a Deep Time Evolutionary Perspective:

Other kinds of programs:

a year-long on-line course

(Optional) Endorsements from people who have participated in your programs:

From Douglas in Indiana, USA (2017): This course will take you to the very Heart of the Cosmos. You will never be the same!
From Janet V (USA), January 2015: I have been walking with the Goddess for many years. I have a slight interest in very, very progressive Christianity and that is what brought me to the writings of people like Brian Swimme and Thomas Berry about 4 years ago. I have been reading Matthew Fox for over 20 years. But, as the “new Universe Story” was/is being told in Christian circles, I felt like a part of me was dying to find someone who could translate this into a woman and earth centered cosmology/thealogy. You have done it.
From Deborah Milton, Washington USA, December 2014: I don’t want to try and articulate her vision here but it has to do with all of us being Creator, that we are IN earth, and that the feminine metaphor/feminine energy (not in opposition to masculine ) is at the heart of all creation…birthing, the womb, the something from nothing …. And she thinks globally, … northern and southern hemispheres balancing each other and the Wheel of the Year a template for healing/wholing our lives. For those of you who know Brian Swimme’s and Thomas Berry’s work, she relies heavily on them, which I love because those two men have been “speaking” to me for nearly 30 years now. Her book is revelatory for me – affirming what I know but articulating it in new ways. Stunning!
