Extended Profile

What do you (or organization) hope for in connection with a deep time perspective?

The desire to tell the tale of how we came to be and to reveal how awesome and beautiful the tale is and how it applies to every form of life that exists and to all variations of human consciousness.

Short description of your (or organization's) current interest/work in an deep time perspective:

Since 9/11, a pivotal point in the lives of so many people for so many different reasons, I have been on a personal journey of the exploration of ideas as expressed by a wide array of past and present scholars with regard to the need for a New Story. Back in 2001 I would call it a New Global Myth and when I raised such an idea with others I would get curious looks of concern and doubt and even I was not sure what such a prominent thought image in my mind would lead to. Jumping ahead 10 years during which I read the work of scholars across a wide range of fields of study and research it became obvious that I was not the only one fascinated by the idea of a New Story that would/should appeal to all of human life. At this point the documentary “Journey of the Universe” was released and I was fortunate to be able to see it at Yale on the night of its premier. As I drove back to NH after viewing it I decided that this one hour video would be a centerpiece for conversations about the New Story. Over the next year I worked on a very basic presentation which included showing the documentary and why it was important as a story and then over the next 2 years I gave presentations to the 3 chapters of the OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes) organization in NH. I received extremely positive feedback which has encouraged me to continue on this personal journey of exploration and hopefully over the next year now that I am settled back on Long Island to continue to give presentations in this area.

Background: Your bio if an individual, or description if an organization (Let us know who you are!):

After almost 50 years in industry in various capacities (engineering, marketing, systems design and management) I am now retired and exploring the meaning of life. Lived most of my life in the New York City area and have 3 children and 5 grandchildren – all living near me which is a real blessing.

What is of particular interest to me now is how to facilitate dialog among people concerning their worldview and how that influences what they believe, how they think, and how they act. Getting to the bottom of how we are different from each other might ultimately lead to how we are really the same. What possibly separates us is the lack of a common understanding of how we came to be in this universe and the journey we have traveled to get to where we are now. How will this understanding influence the future our presence on this planet??

If you call it something else, what do you call it?

Ultimate Reality and Meaning – maybe we need a new field of study, perhaps URMology!! (<;

Organizations involved with that have a Deep Time evolutionary perspective:

I am not connected to any organizations at this time but rather in random and ongoing dialog with various authors that have published in this area of understanding.

Education, Religion/Spirituality

Favorite Quote Having to do With a Deep Time Evolutionary Perspective:

“I am convinced that the story of the universe that has come out of three centuries of modern scientific work will be recognized as a supreme human achievement, the scientific enterprise’s central gift to humanity. For the first time in human existence, we have a cosmic story that is not tied to one cultural tradition, or to a political ideology, but instead gathers every human group into its meanings… We are in the midst of a revelatory experience of the universe that must be compared in its magnitude with those of the greatest religious revelations. And we need only wander about telling this new story to ignite a transformation of humanity.” Brian Swimme

Published Books/Movies/Other With a Deep Time Evolutionary Perspective:

I have not published/produced myself but have read extensively across a wide array of subject areas to the extent that it is difficult to pick a few that have had the greatest influence on me. The “Journey of the Universe” set of materials produced at Yale University served as a major stimulus for me and provoked me to give numerous presentations to OLLI organizations in NH from the period between 2010 and 2012. I will add other significant publications as time goes by and as I make progress in documenting my journey. At the moment I am still embedded in the journey and evolving my understanding to better communicate the significance of what we are learning.
